Wine Palm; Butia capitata

Common Names:
Wine Palm
Jelly Palm

Originating in Brazil and the borders region of Uruguay in South America.

There are several known forms of this palm with leaves which can vary from bluish-grey to green.

Fruits are round, yellow to orange, edible and delicious.

It is the ideal palm for a tropical look in cold areas although it can also grow in subtropical locations.

Butia can tolerate -10Celsius for some hours. Definitely the most cold tolerant of the Butias, it is also drought and wind resitant.

Butias are a very slow growing palm.
